LOS ANGELES – Artis Leon Ivey, also known as Coolio a mid-to-late 1990’s rapper was charged after a firearm was discovered in his backpack at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) officials said.
The 53-year-old rapper, a convicted felon was charged on Thursday with being a felon in possession of a weapon.
Los Angeles County District Attorney’s officials said that one September 17, 2016, a handgun was located in Ivey’s bag while it went through the airport baggage screening. When located, Ivey (Coolio) was with his crew, and his bodyguard allegedly said the loaded weapon belonged to him.
Ivey has two prior felonies, including a 2001 conviction for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle and possession of cocaine base in 2009.
If convicted as charged, Ivey faces up to three years in state prison.
