MENTONE – A Redlands area transient was arrested on Tuesday for a robbery and attempted rape authorities said. At around 1:00 p.m. the suspect, later identified as Ruben Guzman, 31, entered the Mentone home by forcing entry. When inside he physically assaulted and allegedly attempted to sexually assault her. Guzman fled from the woman’s home with her phone.
While investigating, deputies received information that Guzman was still in the area. He was located near 5th and Crafton Avenues where he was taken into custody. Evidence linking Guzman to the crime was located and he was booked into the West Valley Detention Center for assault with intent to rape, 1st-degree robbery, attempted rape, and harm to elder or dependent adult. He is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at the San Bernardino Superior Court on Thursday afternoon.
