RIVERSIDE – Two Riverside brothers arrested for stealing $650 of 5-hour Energy Drinks from a Grand Terrace store.
On Sunday, June 10, 2018, at around 2:30 p.m. deputies were dispatched to the report of a theft at the Walgreens store on Barton Road and Mount Vernon Avenue. When the deputy arrived her learned that Jonathan Ortiz, 28, and Michael Ortiz, 27, both Riverside residents, entered the Walgreens and filled their shopping cart with $650 worth of 5-Hour Energy Drinks. With the basket, they left the store without paying for the merchandise. They left in a 1996 Chevrolet truck that was in the parking lot. Prior to leaving a witness obtained the license plate number and was able to provide it to the deputy.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy, along with the Riverside Police officer responded to the address that the vehicle was registered to. When approaching the destination, the truck was noticed driving in the area. The brothers, still wearing the same clothing that they wore during the theft, were detained without incident. The 5-Hour Energy Drinks were not in the truck. The Ortiz brothers were booked into the Central Detention Center for Conspiracy to Commit a Crime and Theft of Retail Property.
