Riverside Emergency Negotiation Team Safely Resolved Potentially Dangerous Situation

RIVERSIDE – A distraught man was taken into custody after a potentially dangerous situation on the 100 block of Manfield Street in the City of Riverside on Monday. At around 4:50 p.m. the Riverside Police received a call from a woman stating that the male said that he wanted to kill himself. The woman said that the male subject was under the influence of alcohol and prescription medications.

The family said that they were inside the home when the male subject came out of the garage and fired gunshots into the air. The two relatives locked themselves inside the home and called 9-1-1. Authorities responded attempting to achieve a peaceful outcome. An air unit responded to the scene to locate the subject in the backyard of the home, allowing the family members to exit safely out of the front door.

The Emergency Negotiations Team member made a call to the subject, who was eventually convinced to surrender to officers. He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.
