SAN BERNARDINO – A San Bernardino man who stabbed his wife 24 times and then called 911 to report the stabbing was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison officials said.
The sentencing came on Friday, April 27, 2018, after a jury found Duane Magee, 56, guilty of Second Degree Murder and found true a knife allegation in November 2017.
Magee was arrested on September 2012 after stabbing his wife, Velda Magee, 56, two dozen times in their home in the 3200 block of North Greystone Road in the City of San Bernardino. Velda Magee was rushed to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where she had emergency surgery. Initially she was in stable condition following the surgery but eventually succumbed to her injuries. The knife used in the stabbing was recovered at the home.
According to court records, Magee reportedly reported that he stabbed his wife after finding out that she was cheating on him. “When asked whether the victim was dead, the defendant responded, ‘I’m hoping she’s dead,'” said Deputy DA Monrreal.
