VAN NUYS, Calif. – A San Fernando Valley high school teacher and coach was convicted of the sexual abuse of over a dozen juvenile students.
The conviction came on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, following a jury trial. Charges included 25 misdemeanor sexual molestation charges. The charges against 44-year-old Scott Silva included a total of 18 female victims. The charges included one count of false imprisonment, two counts of lewd conduct with a child, six counts of sexual battery, and 16 counts of child molestation.
Silva who worked at Birmingham Charter Community School in the City of Van Nuys, was involved in incidents between 2016 and 2018, officials said. According to a news release, the teacher and lacrosse coach made lewd comments and gestures. He also made “skin to skin” contact with the victims. The allegations were brought to light in November 2018, and Silva was arrested on November 16th. Silva is scheduled to be sentenced on June 19, 2019.
