ORO GRANDE, Calif. – The Riverside Preparatory School – Elementary School campus – had an incident that involved a student bringing an unloaded BB gun to school. The school released information about the Tuesday afternoon incident on Wednesday early afternoon in order to make parents aware.
The student brought the BB gun in his/her backpack to show another student. The student shown the BB gun went to report the incident to an adult. The BB gun was safely removed and the school resource officer was made aware. There is an ongoing investigation into the incident, but the school thanked the student who reported the BB gun. “Their good judgment to turn to an adult was wise and assisted both the school and law enforcement in taking action,” school officials said. “Through our continued partnership with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, we are confident that this potential threat was isolated and resolved.”
No one was injured as a result of the child bringing the BB gun to school. “We take this matter very seriously and are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident,” school officials added. ‘The safety and security of our students and staff are of the highest priority to us and we wanted to make you aware of the incident to reassure you that we are working diligently to address the matter.”
Anyone who has questions or concerns, please contact the elementary office at 760-245-9260 in order to speak with an administrator.
