TEMECULA, Calif. – A man wanted in both Riverside and San Diego Counties was arrested after a standoff and the use of force by a deputy.
On Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at around 2:20 p.m., Investigators from the Temecula Station located suspect, Virgil Zwicker. Zwicker was wanted for firearms, stalking, and other related charges, at a residence located on the 31000 block of Bitterroot Court. Zwicker refused to comply with the investigations and a brief standoff occurred in the driveway of the home. During the standoff, Zwicker reached into the vehicle to reach for something, it was unknown if he retrieved a weapon, authorities said.
He ran through the residence and fled the area on foot. The description of Zwicker was broadcasted for other deputies to be on the lookout for. Zwicker was located running in the area of Wolf Creek Park. Still, Zwicker refused to comply with the orders of deputies. Officials said that he was seen reaching into his waistband. Due to the deputies feeling at risk of a shooting, a motor unit intentionally collided into Zwicker. “A use of force ensued and Zwicker was ultimately taken into custody,” Riverside County Sheriff officials said. “ A deputy and Zwicker sustained injuries as a result of the collision. Both the deputy and Zwicker were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.”
A search of the Bitterroot Court home led authorities to firearms and ammunition. Zwicker was booked at the Cois Byrd Detention Center for felony stalking, resisting arrest, ex-felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. His bail was set at $500,000.
