VICTORVILLE – Three people were badly burned after an explosion and fire at a Spring Valley Lake home on Friday. Authorities said that the report was made at around 1:35 a.m. and indicated that there was a fire at a home located at 13150 Riverview Drive.
When deputies from the Victor Valley Station and fire department personnel arrived they located items consistent with a THC extraction lab. One room of the home was completely destroyed by the explosion and fire. A search warrant was obtained and executed where additional evidence was located. The three suspects were home at the time of the explosion and fire, but fled the location prior to the fire department personnel and deputies arriving at the scene.
The suspects were quickly identified and located. Steven Ray Hoover, 25, of Victorville was badly burned and taken to the hospital where he was subsequently transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for the treatment of 2nd and 3rd degree burns to his head, face, and body. Jesse Karl Bevins, 28, of Apple Valley and Paige Nicole Tappe, 26, of Victorville were located in a Hesperia hotel. Bevins has 2nd-degree burns to his arm; Tappe has 2nd-degree burns to her arm and back that resulted from them being inside the room where the explosion and fire occurred.
“Investigators found evidence to suggest the suspect(s) were manufacturing concentrated cannabis, commonly referred to as Wax or Butane Honey Oil,” Sheriff’s officials said. “Concentrated cannabis can sell for much more than marijuana itself.”
The investigation is ongoing and the report will be sent to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office for review and criminal charges including Manufacturing a Controlled Substance and possibly additional criminal charges. Bevins was booked at the West Valley Detention Center. His bail is set at $500,000.
