BIG BEAR – Two women were arrested and five children were removed from a Big Bear Lake home after a 5-year-old boy died as a result of an alleged child abuse officials said. On Monday, April, 23, 2018, at around 3:05 p.m. pediatricians and social workers from Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital (LLUCH), contacted authorities regarding the boy that was transferred there from Big Bear for a more advanced level of care.
The child had been taken to the hospital that had been sustained at the family’s Big Bear Lake home, located in the 4200 block of Eagles Nest Road. Authorities and medical personnel determined that the injuries were not accidental. Five additional children were removed from the home by Children and Family Services (CFS) and on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, Julia Moore, 34, and Janet Putnam, 63, both residents of Big Bear Lake, were arrested as a result of the incident.
Days later, on Friday, April 27, 2018, the child died as a result of the injuries. Moore now faces charges including Torture, Assault on a Child Causing Injury or Death, and Murder. She was booked into the Central Detention Center and is being held in lieu of $1,100,000 bail. Putnam was booked into the Central Detention Center for Child Cruelty Causing Injury or Death and was released after posting $100,000 bail.
