STOCKTON, Calif. – A newborn baby boy, wrapped up in a blanket was found in a Stockton dumpster fortunately still alive on Tuesday.
At around 11:43 a.m. the baby boy was located and reported to authorities. The baby was transported to the hospital where he remains in good condition. Authorities said that the baby is now in the custody of child protective services. As police searched the area, they were able to locate the teen mother nearby. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
It is unclear, what charges the mother of the abandoned baby may face at this time. “Please remember newborns can be safely surrendered to any firehouse or hospital emergency rooms in the City of Stockton within 72 hours of birth without fear of being prosecuted as long as the baby shows no signs of abuse or neglect,” Stockton Police officials said.
