A year has passed since the missing person report was made for 19-year-old Daniel Gallardo of Barstow. His family feels one step closer, but still so far away from answers to his disappearance when his vehicle, a white 2012 Nissan Altima, was located on Wednesday, October 5, 2016. The vehicle was located that evening in a forest approximately 40 miles north of Truckee by a hunter. Authorities have remained tight-lipped about any evidence located in the vehicle, only saying that they still have not located Gallardo at this time.
The finding of his vehicle led Shasta County deputies to search the area for Gallardo, but the search did not locate Daniel or anything else that authorities would disclose. The vehicle continues to be the only real clue that may hold answers to the whereabouts of Gallardo. “I don’t know where he would be, but wherever he is I hope he’s fine and safe,” said Daniel’s sister, Jennifer Gallardo. Detectives investigating the case admit the case is suspicious, but would not elaborate and said they still must further investigate to know if a crime was committed or if this remains only a missing persons case.
Before going missing, Gallardo was just hired for a job at a Truckee, California Landscaping company. He was staying with family at their Reno, Nevada home since it was only around 30 miles from his place of work. He left the home, on his way to his first day of work on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, but never arrived at work. On October 29, 2015, a family friend called to report Gallardo missing when they still had not heard from him and were unable to reach him.
Jennifer Gallardo said that she was only told the vehicle was located and that they will attempt to get the family additional information within 6-10 weeks. She said that the family only wants him home safe, and they would like answers to his disappearance.
Gallardo has brown hair and eyes, he is 5’6” tall and weighs 130 pounds. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Barstow Police Department at (760)256-2211, or the Truckee Police Department at (530)550-2323.
