VICTORVILLE – Unlike Memorial Day, which honors those who lost their lives in active military service, Veterans Day; coming on November 11th, honors the veterans and victims of all wars. The City of Victorville, each year hosts a Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony. This year is special, as it will be the 20th Anniversary of these parades and those in the community are invited to attend.
The parade route begins on November 11th at 9:00 a.m. in Old Town Victorville at Tracy and 7th Streets and the Veterans Day Ceremony, located at 7th Street and Forrest Avenue, immediately follows. The Ceremony will feature a Salute to Victorville Veterans including recognition for more than 70 of them.
Those wishing to participate in the parade still have time to apply. Application is accepted at Hook Community Center located at 14973 Joshua Street in the City of Victorville. All types of groups are encouraged to participate and city officials are asking that those participating follow a patriotic theme. The deadline to apply is Thursday, November 3rd.
Also, as part of the festivities, the City will host the Freedom Mile Run, just before the parade at 8:55 a.m. Participation is encouraged and it is free. Freedom Mile Run registration will be at the corner of 7th Street and Forrest Avenue at 8:15 a.m. The first 100 runners to register will receive a free commemorative race bib.
The parade application can be downloaded from the City of Victorville website at www.victorvilleca.gov. For more information about the Freedom Mile Run, parade, and ceremony, call (760) 245-5551
