VICTORVILLE – A Victorville couple was arrested for identity theft, theft of utility services and possession of drugs on Wednesday evening.
Deputies from the Victor Valley Station, as part of a mail theft investigation, went to a vacant home in the 9900 block of Duncan Road in Victorville. When they arrived they made contact with 36-year-old Shirley Vanderdoes, 36, and Damon Alexander, 46, both of Victorville. When deputies entered the home, they located debit cards, California ID cards, mail, and bank account statements not belonging to Vanderdoes or Alexander. They also found a laptop and printer, that authorities believe was used to create accounts and debit cards.
Through further investigation, deputies also learned that the suspects bypassed the Southern California Edison electricity meter in order to steal utilities. When searching Alexander, methamphetamine was located in his possession. Both Alexander and Vanderdoes were arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for conspiracy to commit a crime, theft of utility services, and acquiring identification with intent to defraud. Alexander was also booked for the possession of a controlled substance.
Vanderdoes was released on Thursday on her own recognizance and will be scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Alexander remains in custody and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail
