VICTORVILLE – The owner of the MA Food and Gas, formerly the Valero Gas Station located on 7th Street in the City of Victorville was arrested today for submitting fraudulent documents to a government agency.
Anaheim resident, Amfad Abdelmassihe, 41, was charged with one felony count of Submission of False or Fraudulent Documents to a Government Agency, and one felony count of Forgery after submitting documents stating he was in compliance with environmental laws for the gas station located at 15603 7th Street.
The Lead Deputy District Attorney Doug Poston said that gas stations are required by law to have annual inspections to confirm proper maintenance and compliance with environmental laws. “The laws and regulations are in place to ensure that underground storage tanks do not leak toxic and flammable automotive fuels into the water tables, which in some cases lie a short distance from the surface of the earth,” said Poston. The information must be submitted to the San Bernardino County Fire Department Hazardous Materials Division for the regulation of all facilities handling hazardous materials or waste.
“Our office remains committed to the protection of our natural resources, and if a regulated business falsifies documentation or tries to avoid compliance with the rules designed to protect our communities from poisoning the air we breathe and the water we drink, they can expect to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” said District Attorney Mike Ramos. “It’s simple, follow the rules or go to jail.”
Abdelmassihe was arrested by District Attorney Investigators at his place of business and he was booked into the West Valley Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Monday, December 12, 2016, and faces up to 3 years in prison if convicted as charged.
