VICTORVILLE – A Victorville man was arrested on Wednesday morning for an indoor marijuana grow that was found to be stealing utilities.
After numerous tips regarding the possible illegal narcotic activity at the home located at 12381 Domingo Street in the City of Victorville the Marijuana Enforcement Team and Victorville Police Gang Team served a search warrant. Shi X Yu, 36, was inside the home when the search was executed, and he was taken into custody.
Once inside, investigators located a large-scale indoor marijuana grow, with over 1150 marijuana plants inside of the house. The plants were in various stages of growth and several pounds of processed marijuana was also located inside the home. The sophisticated operation used an advanced lighting and cooling system. Exhaust blowers and an air filtering system was also used to control the climate inside the house as well as preventing strong odors from escaping the home.
The modified wiring causes a fire and/or explosion hazard, which can cause injuries to those inside the home or to those within close proximity. SCE will complete their investigation and send the report to the sheriff’s department. The power going to the home was disconnected so that the faulty wiring and bypass can be repaired. The electricity was disconnected from the home so that the modifications can be removed and/or repaired. Authorities believe that the marijuana grow has been in place for several years, with over $80,000 worth of electricity stolen. The home was red-tagged by City Code Enforcement who deemed the property unsafe to occupy.
Yu was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Cultivation of Marijuana and Theft of Utilities. He is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Friday afternoon.
