VICTORVILLE – A 35-year-old Victorville man was arrested after a traffic stop led to a dangerous pursuit on Thursday morning. At around 1:12 a.m. a Victorville Station deputy observed a white Ford Mustang parked near 7th Street and La Paz Drive. The vehicle had expired tags so the deputy attempted to make contact with the male occupants in the vehicle. While the deputy was identifying the two occupants, the Andrew Steven Adkins started the vehicle and drove away.
The deputy followed the vehicle activated his lights and siren attempting to stop Adkins. Additional deputies responded to assist the deputy. Adkins continued driving leading deputies on a 7-mile pursuit, running stop signs, red lights and crossing over onto the wrong side of the road. While on the wrong side of the road, Adkins collided into a marked police vehicle. Adkins was eventually stopped using the pursuit intervention maneuver (PIT) at the intersection of Denham and Pismo Lanes.
He was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for evading a peace officer, assault with a deadly weapon, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Adkins was found to be on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS). He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Monday afternoon.
The passenger inside the vehicle was cited for the possession of drug paraphernalia and was released at the scene.
