VICTORVILLE – A 62-year-old Victorville woman was struck and killed by a drunk driver in the City of Victorville on Sunday night. At around 8:36 p.m. deputies from the Victorville station and emergency medical personnel responded to the vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Palmdale Road near Cobalt Road. When they arrived they learned that the collision took place just west of Emerald Road.
Manuel Salvador Flores, 22, of Victorville, was driving a blue F-150 pickup truck east on Palmdale Road. The pedestrian, Sandra Leon Pasillas, 62, was walking east on the paved shoulder of Palmdale Road. Flores, for reasons that remain under investigation, swerved over the white, “fog line” striking Pasillas leading to her death at the scene. Flores was not injured as a result of the collision but was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Flores was booked in the High Desert Detention Center in the City of Adelanto for Gross Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated. He is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail and is expected to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Wednesday afternoon.
The collision remains under investigation by the Victorville City Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT). Palmdale Road, east of Cantina Drive and west of Cobalt Road, was closed in both directions for several hours while investigators processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.
