WEST COVINA – A 21-year-old West Covina man was convicted of the stabbing death of his father and faces 6 years in prison officials said. The stabbing occurred in their shared West Covina home in the 900 block of Las Rosas Drive on August 16, 2015, when the two allegedly got into a physical altercation. The altercation escalated, leading to Maverick Jacob Jimenez stabbing his father, 49-year-old Joey Jimenez.
Joey Jimenez was transported to the hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries. Maverick Jimenez was arrested shortly after the attack and was initially charged with murder.
As part of a plea bargain, on Wednesday, October 15, 2016, Jimenez pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter, along with the special allegation that he personally used a dangerous weapon, a knife, during the commission of the crime. He is expected to be sentenced on January 4, 2017, at the Pomona Superior Court and is expected to be sentenced to six years in prison.
