The State Route 58 Hinkley Expressway Project, a $201 million project which is being completed by Skanska will be opening Thursday, March 23rd. The project to widen and realign the SR-58 began in June 2015 and will be making the two-lane highway into a four-lane expressway. The project is also constructing two interchanges on Hinkley and Lenwood Roads.
The westbound SR-58 traffic from the existing SR-58 will open to the new alignment on the SR-58 Hinkley Expressway on Thursday, March 23. The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) officials said that at that time both eastbound and westbound traffic will be active on the new SR-58 Expressway. Caltrans spokesman Philip Havins said that once this new pattern is established the existing SR-58 will be closed. “There will be no access from Lenwood Road northbound to westbound SR-58 until July 2017,” Havins said in the news release.
Caltrans is advising motorists to use alternative routes. The majority of the project should be complete by summer 2017.
