AMBOY – Out of drinking water and lost in the desert a 57-year-old Arizona woman was located and 29 Palms Marine Corps Base. Johnnie Savage went to the Ludlow area on Tuesday to look for rocks for her collection. When she did not return, she was reported missing just before 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
All authorities had at the time was Savage’s description and possible location. Using the limited information available, Sheriff’s Aviation responded to search for Savage. While searching deputies were able to contact Savage by phone and get her GPS coordinates. Savage told authorities that the vehicle was stuck and she had no drinking water. She also told them that she may have been hallucinating. Using the GPS coordinates, those searching learned that Savage was in the Morongo Basin on the 29 Palms Marine Corps Base.
Joshua Tree station deputies responded and assumed the investigation. Due to the fact that Savage was in a restricted fly zone, Sheriff’s Aviation did not respond. Marine Corps Search and Rescue responded to assist in the search while paramedics were dispatched to the area to assist once Savage was located. At around 6:50 p.m., Savage was located by the Marines. Water was dropped down to her and Sheriff’s Aviation was granted access in order to rescue her.
Savage was recovered and flown to the waiting paramedics for medical evaluation. She was transported to the Hi-Desert Medical Center for the treatment of non-life-threatening conditions. For late-breaking news, follow 24/7 Headline News on our Los Angeles County Facebook group, Riverside County Facebook group, Coachella Valley News group, US News group, Victor Valley/Inland Empire Facebook group.
