VICTORVILLE – A 21-year-old Apple Valley man arrested following an apparent vehicle-to-vehicle shooting authorities said. On Sunday, April 2, 2017, at around 10:00 p.m. a Sheriff’s Service Specialist from the Victorville station heard gunshots coming from the Amargosa Road and Hook Boulevard area.
When he went toward the area to investigate, he noticed a Nissan Sedan stopped in the northbound lane of Amargosa Road with a man, later identified as Floyd Avery standing near the driver’s side door. The male then began firing a handgun and got back into his vehicle and drove away from the scene colliding into a parked vehicle. Authorities said that two passengers got out of the vehicle and ran, while Avery drove away.
A Victorville station deputy arrived and attempted to stop the vehicle on Del Norte Street. Avery continued driving, but stopped when he drove into a drainage ditch and hit a tree. Avery ran from the vehicle, but was quickly apprehended. When the vehicle was cleared, the third passenger, a 22-year-old woman was located inside the vehicle with facial injuries as a result of the shattered glass.
Deputies learned that Avery had exchanged gunfire with a second vehicle at Hook and Amargosa. There is no description of the other involved vehicle or any other suspects. He was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for shooting at an occupied vehicle. The three passengers inside Avery’s vehicle were questioned and subsequently released. The case was forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for review.
