ADELANTO – A deputy from the Adelanto station saved a man who attempted suicide on Saturday afternoon. At around 1:45 p.m. Deputy Lauren Abernathy was patrolling the area near Rancho Road and Richardson Street in the City of Adelanto when she noticed a parked vehicle with a man inside. She pulled her vehicle up to it in order to make contact with the occupant. As she did, she noticed that a hose was running from the tailpipe to the interior of the vehicle.
The male subject was inside and was sweating profusely and was unresponsive as a result of the fumes. Deputy Abernathy turned the vehicle off, took out the keys from the ignition, and ventilated the vehicle until paramedics arrived. The man was rushed to a local hospital. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials said that due to the limited traffic if the area, had Deputy Abernathy not been so observant and quick to react, the victim would have most likely been successful in his suicide attempt.
