VICTORVILLE, Calif. – An Adelanto man is behind bars after, while under the influence, struck a vehicle and fled the scene.
On Friday, July 19, 2019, at around 9:56 p.m. deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to a 2-vehicle traffic collision near Palmdale and Mariposa Roads in Victorville. When they arrived they found an unoccupied utility truck and an overturned vehicle with two adults and two children inside.
Through investigation it was learned that Ernest Roundtree Moran, 32, was driving a utility truck that belonged to his employer. He was driving northbound on Mariposa Road when he failed to stop at the red light at the Palmdale Road intersection. He crashed into the second vehicle, causing it to overturn. Moran fled the scene but was detained by a security guard near the Green Tree Golf Course. Moran was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested. The two adults were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the children were not injured.
He was booked at High Desert Detention Center for driving under the influence of alcohol, causing bodily injury. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review and consideration of further charges. Meanwhile, Moran is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Tuesday afternoon.
Work crews with the City of Victorville responded to repair and or replace signs and lights damaged by the suspect prior to and during the collision.
