ADELANTO – The City of Adelanto, with the support of volunteers and sponsors, will be assisting families with food supplies through the Third Annual Mayor’s Food Giveaway. This giveaway will assist thousands of families who may not otherwise have the means to provide adequate food for their family for Easter and Spring Break.
The event will be held at Adelanto Stadium will be held on Saturday, March 31st, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The tradition began in 2016, by Mayor Rich Kerr and his wife, Mistey. “Unfortunately there are many families in Adelanto who don’t have many resources to turn to who just need a helping hand,” said Mayor Kerr. “This event has proven to be a success each year as we have many organizations and volunteers joining forces to serve our community.”
Last year, the event provided around 10,000 pounds of food and supplies to approximately 2400 people. This year, approximately 3000 people should benefit from this event. “This event has grown in popularity, and thankfully we have generous sponsors who help to make it happen,” said Mistey Kerr.
Sponsors for this year’s giveaway include:
Korean Chamber of Commerce
Smart and Final
Hindon Harris Real Estate
Lifestyle Delivery Systems
Assembly of God church
“As you can imagine it takes a lot of volunteers to handle a crowd of this size, but we have over 50 already committed to help,” said Kerr. The food giveaway is for Adelanto residents however organizers say that no one will be turned away unless food runs out. “Easter bunny will be there for pictures and Easter baskets will be replaced with bags of candy for the kids,” said Kerr.
