APPLE VALLEY – Looking for some family fun? The Town of Apple Valley is hosting the “Happy Trails Chili Cook-off” on Saturday, October 15th and all are invited to attend. Those wishing to participate in cooking their special recipe should sign up right away. The proceeds of this fun low-cost fundraising event benefits the Apple Valley Rotary Club, who supports programs for childhood literacy.
Whether you will be representing a business, a club or just yourself enter for your chance to win in the “community cooks” division. Professional cooks will compete in a separate International Chili Society cook-off. Winners of the International Chili Society cook-off can move on to the 2017 World Championships.
The public is invited to taste, and shop. There will be chili cooks, various vendors (food and other), and a beer garden. The kids can enjoy the Fall Festival area, which will feature inflatables and “Paint A Truck”; where kids can help to paint an actual pick-up truck. The cost for this would be the unlimited-use wristband, which is only $5. Cost is $5 per adult and children 10 and under are free (if they are not tasting). Paid admission includes a tasting kit, five tasting tickets, and ballots to vote for the people’s choice.
This chili cook-off will be held at the Lenny Brewster Sports Center located at 21024 Otoe Road and will be from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The best chili selection will be between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Chili tasting can be extremely limited later in the afternoon.
“As a regional qualifying event for the World Championship, the Happy Trails Chili Cook Off is like the wildcard round leading up to the World Series,” explained Kathie Martin, event chair. “This event attracts elite cooks and ICS-certified judges, and we are very proud to host it.”
