HEMET – A 37-year-old Apple Valley man accidentally lit himself on fire while starting a mobile home fire in the 1100 block of Kirby Street in Hemet. Raymond Morrison, according to authorities, went to a mobile home at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Monday, November 14, 2016. The targeted mobile home was occupied by a woman, who Morrison had a previous relationship, and prior domestic violence run-ins with. Morrison reportedly threw a Molotov cocktail at the home and while doing so caught fire to his left sweatshirt sleeve. Morrison quickly discarded his shirt, and without a shirt ran from the scene.
According to a news release, the singed sweatshirt was located close to the doublewide mobile home. Several hours later Morrison was found hiding outside of the Rancho Family Medical Clinic located at 30420 Haun Road in Menifee. Morrison sustained severe burn injuries to his left arm and attempted to use gauze and masking tape to treat the burn.
Morrison was arrested for arson and attempted murder but was taken to the Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar for the treatment of his injuries. Once medically cleared Morrison will be booked into jail.
