VICTORVILLE – A 37-year-old Victorville man is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly shooting at two male victims at a Victorville liquor store parking lot on Saturday.
At around 11:10 a.m. Victorville police responded to the 14800 block of El Evado to the Michael’s Liquor parking lot for the report of a shooting.
When they arrived they found a 28-year-old victim in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Deputies learned that the victims were involved in a verbal altercation with the suspect and the suspect retrieved a handgun and shot the first victim. The second victim had ran as he was being shot at and hid behind a car. The second victim, also a 28-year-old male was not injured as a result of the shooting. The suspect fled from the scene.
Deputies obtained video surveillance and identified Kewetha Darrington, 37, as the suspect. At around 2:00 p.m. Sheriff’s dispatch received a call reporting that there was a suspicious male in the area of Reno Loop and East Trail. An investigating deputy responded to the area and located a male who he recognized as the suspect just as he was being picked up by a vehicle. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and arrested the suspect without incident.
Darrington was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for attempted murder and is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Victorville Superior Court on January 15, 2019.
