LONDON – An incident that British authorities are saying is terror related killed four and injured at least twenty.
At around 2:40 p.m. GMT (7:40 a.m. PST) an assailant plowed through the Westminster Bridge to Parliament in a small SUV. The area is a well-known tourist attraction where many go to take photos when visiting the area. After hitting several people, the suspect crashed into the bridge railing and fled toward Parliament and stabbed a Police officer before being fatally shot by responding law enforcement officers. Life-saving measures were administered to the stabbed officer, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Pedestrians screamed out and ran from the area, some while attempting to capture the aftermath on cell phone video. The area reportedly has a large amount of surveillance that authorities are reviewing as part of the investigation.
The incident caused a lockdown to be placed on Parliament, although the incident was believed to be the act of a single suspect. Prime Minister Theresa May was rushed out of the area to safety when the chaos unfolded.
