A man from the United Kingdom who failed to comply with the conditions of his release from jail led to his photo being shared by authorities on Facebook.
The Gwent Police Department shared the photo of 21-year-old Jermaine Taylor, sparking a flood of comments targeting his appearance. Tayior was sentenced to 3 years in prison for selling cocaine on September 4, 2017. He was released on December 10, 2018. He remained on probation once he was released, but violated his probation leading to a warrant being issued for his arrest.
Since posting the photo and information, the photo has had 10,000 reactions, 84,000 comments, and 14,000 shares. Many of the comments were those joking about the suspect’s appearance.
The Police Department officials were not pleased with the comments. “Please remember that harassing, threatening and abusing people on social media can be against the law,” Gwent Police Officials said. “Our advice is to be as careful on social media as you would in any other form of communication. If you say something about someone which is grossly offensive or is of an indecent, obscene or menacing character, then you could be investigated by the police.”
