BARSTOW, Calif. – A 34-year-old Barstow was caught in the act during the burglary of a commercial building on Friday.
Barstow Police officials said that at around 10:45 p.m. they were dispatched to the 500 block of Victor Street for a burglary in progress. When they arrived one male suspect had already fled from the location. The suspect who remained at the scene was still inside of the location stealing items. He was taken into custody without incident and identified as Louie Hernandez Jr.
The owner of the commercial building was called to the incident location and told officers that a 26’ Commander boat, a red and white CR500 dirt bike, and several tools were missing from the location. She also stated that several other items that were inside the building had been moved and ransacked.
Officers responded to Hernandez’s home in the 800 block of Arbor Way. The stolen 26’ Commander boat was located in front of the home. A search warrant was approved and served at the home. “As a result of a search warrant, Detective Helms and Barstow Police Officers were able to locate items that were stolen from the incident location as well as a stolen Honda Accord that had been dismantled in the rear yard,” Barstow Police officials said.
Through investigation, it was revealed that the suspects stole a Dodge dually pickup from the incident location and towed the 26’ Commander boat to the home in the 800 block of Arbor Way. The Dodge pickup was recovered, but the Honda CR500 dirt bike has not been located. Anyone with further information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Helms at 760-255-5132.
