BARSTOW – A Barstow man was arrested for the attempted burglary of the Treasure House Mall on Tuesday morning. At around 4:00 a.m. Barstow Police responded to the business in the 300 Block of East Main Street regarding a burglar alarm. When they arrived, they located a Hispanic man attempting to gain access to a back door of the business using a large device. The officer approached the business and the male suspect, later identified as Lawrence Herrera, 37 and he fled east toward trash bins that belong to the business.
As Herrera fled from the location, he discarded a set of bolt cutters into one of the bins and continued to flee on foot. The officer caught up and took Herrera into custody. “Officer Cardenas went to the rear door where he first saw Herrera and discovered several fresh cut marks on the door,” Barstow Police officials said. “Officer Cardenas also collected the set of bolt cutters from the trash bin that Herrera had discarded while fleeing.”
The damage to the door was confirmed to be new by an employee who was called to the scene. Herrera was arrested for burglary and was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Commercial Burglary. He is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Thursday afternoon.
