BARSTOW – A 41-year-old Barstow man was arrested for the burglary and arson of the Blue Beach Board Shop Outlet Store on Friday.  Barstow Police responded to a burglary alarm that indicated that there was a breach to the front glass and interior motion at the store located in the 2500 block of Mercantile Way.

When the first officer arrived at the scene he noticed that a silver PT Cruiser leave the area, making a right turn onto Lenwood Road at a high rate of speed with no lights on. The vehicle was quickly disabled when it collided with a street sign in the center divider on Lenwood Road. The driver of the vehicle exited the disabled vehicle and fled on foot. The officer pursued the driver and was able to take him into custody a short distance away.

Officers responded to the Blue Beach Store and noticed that the front window was broken and smoke was coming from inside of the business. The Barstow Fire Protection District was requested to the scene and arrived a short time later to extinguish the fire. Through investigation, police learned that the fire was set to several items of clothing inside the store.

Store personnel responded and notified the officers that property was stolen from the business. Upon searching the suspect vehicle the property taken from the Blue Beach Outlet Store was located. Suspect Russell Kash was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Arson and Burglary. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact Officer Peter D’Andrea at the Barstow Police Department at (760) 255-5111. Callers wishing to remain anonymous are urged to call the We-tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463) or you may leave information on the We-Tip website at www.wetip.com.
