YUCAIPA – A citizen was purposely hit by a vehicle after he followed the suspect vehicle he believed was involved in prior mail thefts in the area.
On April 19, 2018, just before 1:30 p.m. deputies responded to the 12500 block of 14th Street after dispatch received a 911 call reporting the vehicle. After calling, the reporting party followed the blue sedan with his motorcycle as it attempted to flee the area. “The suspect attempted to hit the citizen with her vehicle several times and, ultimately, did hit the motorcyclist, causing him minor injuries,” Yucaipa Sheriff’s Station officials said. Deputies located the suspect vehicle and the driver failed to yield leading to a pursuit.
Two patrol units attempted to perform a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) in order to stop the vehicle. The PIT maneuver did not stop the vehicle but led to two of the patrol units becoming disabled. The driver continued on driving erratically without regards for safety. Authorities canceled the pursuit due to safety concerns. “Shortly after the pursuit was canceled, the suspect was unable to navigate the turn onto a bridge on Live Oak Canyon Rd south of Interstate 10,” Sheriff’s officials said. “She lost control of her vehicle, exited the roadway and crashed into the bottom of a dry riverbed.”
Gloria Moore, 50, of Beaumont, was detained at the scene by a citizen who saw her vehicle leave the roadway. She sustained only minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for medical clearance. She was booked into the West Valley Detention Center for Felony Evading and Assault with a Deadly Weapon. She is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
