A Bell woman was sentenced to 26 years in prison for killing her 64-year-old grandmother.
On July 18, 2016, Sarah Paula Montoya, 27, strangled her grandmother, Paula Montoya. Her body was found three days later when a welfare check was conducted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff deputies at the home in the 6600 block of Pine Avenue. Her body was located in her bathroom wrapped in plastic and in a blanket.
Sarah Montoya then fled the country with her children, ages 1-9 years old, without their father’s permission. She was arrested at a border crossing attempting to cross back into the United States. According to court testimony, Sarah Montoya killed her grandmother because the grandmother did not Sarah Montoya or her boyfriend to be at her house anymore.
A no contest plea was entered on Friday, June 28, 2019, to one count of voluntary manslaughter and three counts of kidnapping. She was sentenced immediately following the plea.
