NEWBERRY SPRINGS, Calif. – The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and fire department personnel responded to a call reporting a big rig fire on the I-40 west on the Hector Road off ramp.
When they arrived shortly after the 8:55 p.m. report they learned that the big rig that was on fire was hauling water. Everyone got out of the vehicle that was quickly engulfed with both the truck and trailer on fire. The CHP closed the off ramp at around 9:50 p.m. The truck and trailer were a complete loss, CHP officials said.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. As of 10:15 p.m., the off ramp remains closed to traffic. There are no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
