VICTORVILLE – The community is mourning the loss of a 21-year-old 2013 Hesperia High School graduate after his life was taken as a result of a Victorville traffic collision Thursday evening.
At around 5:09 p.m. Victorville station deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to a traffic collision on Bear Valley road just west of Dunia Road. When they arrived, they located Carlos Velazquez trapped and unresponsive in his vehicle. Velazquez was extricated by fire personnel and was transported by ground ambulance to Desert Valley Hospital in preparation to be airlifted to Loma Linda Medical Center. Despite life-saving efforts, Velazquez ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle was transported to Desert Valley Hospital for the complaint of pain.
The young friends of Velasquez, some who have known him since middle school, were devastated by the loss of their dear friend. Several posted to social media speaking of their fond memories working with, playing basketball with, and playing in the band with Velasquez. “I can go on and on of how much you meant to me and my family, but I would never be able to type it all,” said David Antunez in a Facebook post. “I wish we could’ve hung out that last time and make some more memories, but I have enough for a lifetime and will cherish those forever.”
His place of employment, Sweet Frog, located at 12274 Palmdale Road in the City of Victorville will be having a fundraiser for his family on Friday, January 6, 2017, and are asking the community to show up and donate to the family. “With a heavy heart last night one of my employees and friends passed away in a car accident,” said Susan McIntyre. “Carlos Velazquez, he was a great person and he was very honest about everything. My condolences go out to his family.”
Bear Valley Road was closed in both directions in the area of the collision for several hours for the Victorville Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) investigation. Anyone with information about the collision is requested to contact Deputy J. Dean or A. Awad at 760-241-2911.
