CORONA – Officers from the Corona Police Department are seeking the whereabouts of an armed robbery suspect. Twice the same day on Monday, November 21, 2016, the suspect now identified as 19-year-old Corona resident Kevin Andrew Matias robbed two restaurants.
The first robbery occurred just after 2:20 p.m. when the suspect robber the Aloha Hawaiian BBQ, located at 2150 Calfornia Avenue. Matias, described by employees as a Hispanic man in his 20’s entered the business, displayed a firearm, and ordered the employee to give him cash from the register. The frightened employees complied with the his demands. He then fled on foot toward Rimpau Avenue. An area search using ground and an air unit was conducted, but police were unable to located Matias.
The same day, at around 10:20 p.m. a robbery occurred at the Subway, located at 115 North McKinley Street. Matias walked into the restaurant, demanded cash from the register. The employees complied and the suspect again described as a Hispanic man in his 20’s. An area check was conducted, but Matias again was able to elude police.
Surveillance footage helped investigators determine that Matias was the suspect in the two robberies. Matias is a Hispanic man, about 5’10” tall, weighing about 155 pounds with short black hair, brown eyes, and distinctive large plugs in his ear lobes. Matias, now as a result of the two robberies has a warrant for his arrest with a $105,000 warrant bail.
