VICTORVILLE – A traffic collision involving a deputy sent a deputy to the hospital Tuesday evening. At around 6:30 p.m. Sheriff’s dispatch received information that the traffic signals at Palmdale and Amethyst Roads were not functioning. When deputies arrived they found that the lights were completely out and called Caltrans to the intersection. Stop signs were placed at the busy intersection and deputies parked in the area with their overhead lights activated for additional visibility.
Just after 9:00 p.m. a deputy driving a marked Ford Explorer arrived at the intersection and stopped at the northbound stop sign. James Boross, 54, of Victorville was stopped at the stop on the opposite side of the intersection facing the deputy. The deputy began driving across the intersection and was struck by Barbara Stewart, 60, of Adelanto who was driving west on Palmdale Road.
The force of the collision sent the deputy’s vehicle spinning causing it to hit Baross’ vehicle. The Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to conduct the investigation. Witnesses at the scene told deputies that Steward failed to stop at the temporarily posted sign causing the collision. The deputy was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released. Neither Stewart or Boross required medical attention.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Detective Grantham at the Apple Valley Station, (760) 240-7400 or Deputy Sahagun at the Victor Valley Station, (760) 552-6800.
