Upon arrival, emergency medical personnel was not immediately able to locate the injured rider. Within minutes they were able to locate the Hesperia man suffering from major head trauma, facial fractures, at least one fractured rib, and possible internal bleeding. They were also able to determine that the collision involved a red and white dirt bike and not an initially reported motorcycle.
The landing zone was set up at Mojave Drive just north of the incident location. Westbound lanes of Mojave Drive were shut down at West Trail for the helicopter to land in the dirt field just north of Mojave Drive.
Victorville Sheriff’s Station spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez said that the single-vehicle collision occurred when the rider went into a ditch and launched approximately 30 feet from the ditch. There were no other injuries reported as a result of this collision. Mojave Drive was reopened to traffic shortly after the helicopter lifted from the landing zone enroute to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.
