GILROY, Calif. – Santa Clara County Bomb Squad technicians responded to the parking lot of a Gilroy business complex for a suspicious device.
On Tuesday, March 26, 2019, a silver tubular object with a green fuse was found at 8080 Santa Teresa Boulevard. The device was around 7” long and 1” thick. It was wrapped in foil and had a store-bought green fuse coming out of the center of it. Authorities said that the fuse had been lit, but for some reason, it failed. The device was X-rayed and otherwise inspected and was learned to be a live crudely constructed homemade explosive.
“Gilroy PD is asking everyone to be careful if they find another device,” police officials said in a news release. “It is clear the person(s) who constructed the device have very little knowledge in the use of certain explosive chemical compounds. If an object appears suspicious please do not touch it, call 911, and try to keep innocent people away from it until police arrival.”
Attached is a photo of the device just in case there are more like it out there you’ll know what it is when you see it.
