VICTORVILLE, Calif. – Two teens were cited for a fight at the Victor Valley Mall Food Court that left one victim injured.
At around 4:35 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019, a deputy with the Victorville Station was alerted to a large crowd in the food court that appeared to be fighting. The first deputy at the scene told the crowd to disperse, but the majority of the crowd did not comply with his orders.” “The deputy witnessed a 15-year old black male punch an unknown victim several times, and the deputy detained the male,” said Victorville Station Spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez. The deputy proceeded to detain the suspect and a large crowd formed around the deputy. Again, according to Sheriff’s officials, he told the crowd again to disperse.
“At that time, a 16-year old black male refused to comply with the orders and began pushing on the deputy’s baton, then attempted to take the baton,” said Rodriguez. “The deputy used the baton to deliver strikes to the male, in order to keep possession of the baton and ensure the safety of himself and others.” The second suspect was also detained as the rest of the crowd fled the location.
Both suspects were cited and released to their parents, the 15-year-old for Inticing a Riot and Battery and the 16-year-old for Resisting a Peace Officer. The victim was transported to the hospital for the treatment of his injuries.
