FONTANA, Calif. – The Fontana Police Department made an arrest for the late-July murder of a male subject.
On July 27, 2019, at around 4:25 a.m. police were dispatched to the 9800 block of Poplar Avenue. Officers arrived at the location and found a man and woman in the street suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were rushed to the hospital where the man was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. The woman was treated and released.
Through investigation and followup on leads were able to identify Devale Malik Damond Wright as the suspect. On July 30, 2019, Wright was arrested when leaving his home in the 7400 block of Topanga Avenue in the City of Fontana. A search of his home was conducted, where numerous items, which will be used as evidence were collected.
It was learned that Wright did not know his victims. The motive is unknown at this time. Wright was booked at the West Valley Detention Center for Murder and Attempted Murder.
