RANCHO CUCAMONGA – A Fontana man was sentenced to 42 years to life in state prison for the sexual abuse of three young girls San Bernardino District Attorney officials said.
Eduardo Manila was first accused by a 13-year-old girl in September 2014, the accusations led to the discovery that Manila had sexually abused two other girls. The 13-year-old girl, who was referred to as “Jane Doe” told her grandparents that Manila had fondled her when she spent the night at his home. Teresa Smith, the Deputy District Attorney on the case said that Jane Does was friends with a 14-year-old girl who was referred to as “Janet Doe” who was Manila’s fiancé’s daughter. Janet Doe also came forward to report that she was also inappropriately touched by Manila.
“My assault will be a part of me for the rest of my life, even though it might be done,” Jane Doe told Judge Mary E. Fuller at the sentencing hearing for 52-year-old Manila. “I will always have the reoccurring nightmare of the defendant touching me. I will have to live my life in a way now that I have the recurring question of, ‘Will I ever be able to trust anyone again?'”
The Fontana Police Department, who investigated the case learned that the Manila’s stepdaughter, who officials referred to as “Mary Doe” had made similar allegations years before. On February 9, 2016, Manila was found guilty of 8 counts of Lewd Act Upon a Child.
“I stand here today to tell everyone and my offender that I am no longer a victim, I am a survivor,” Mary Doe said during her victim impact statement prior to sentencing. “I stand here today to take a stand for girls going through this, for girls that have gone through it and for girls who will go through it.”
