FONTANA – A Highland man was rearrested while out on bail from an arrest earlier this month.
On Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at around 1:20 a.m. officers witnessed a vehicle run a stop light at Cherry and Baseline in the City of Fontana. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to yield.
The driver later identified as 23-year-old Juan Juarez continued driving weaving between lanes. When Juarez approached the Cherry and Foothill intersection he crossed the center median, colliding head on with another vehicle. The collision caused a chain reaction involving other vehicles. Juarez got out of the vehicle, that was learned to be stolen from Highland and attempted to flee. He was taken into custody without further incident.
The collision caused several other injuries from minor to major. Patients were treated at the scene and at local hospitals. Juarez was released from jail after a March 2, 2017, arrest made by the San Bernardino Police Department. The arrest was for theft and the possession of a stolen vehicle, burglary, and resisting arrest.
Juarez was booked into the jail ward at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center due to the injuries sustained in the collision. He was booked for felony evading, felony DUI causing injury, possession of a stolen vehicle, and committing a crime while out on bail.
