VICTORVILLE – Four people, including three juveniles, were killed and two others were injured following a Victorville traffic collision Friday night.
At 8:11 p.m. Victorville station deputies and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the head on crash on Air Expressway
near Phantom West. When they arrived, they located an overturned white Ford Explorer with major damage, a blue Toyota Corolla off the southwest corner of the road also with major damage and a silver Honda sedan with minor to moderate damage.
When emergency medical personnel checked the vehicles, they found three in the Toyota which included one adult later identified as Mercedes Breda of Adelanto and one juvenile, who were not breathing. Despite lifesaving efforts, the mother, a 12-year-old girl, and a 3-year-old boy all died at the scene.
Two air ambulances were requested with a landing zone at a nearby fire station, but one was later canceled. A 7-year-old boy was transported to Victor Valley Global Medical Center where he died as a result of the injuries sustained just before 9:00 p.m.. Another juvenile was transported by air ambulance to a trauma center with undisclosed critical injuries.
Authorities said that the Honda was traveling westbound when it was sideswiped by the westbound traveling Toyota. The Toyota then apparently lost control, crossed into the eastbound lanes and crashed head-on into the Ford SUV. The driver of the Ford according to deputies at the scene suffered only minor injuries and declined medical transport. The driver of the Honda reported no injuries as a result of the collision.
Air Expressway was closed from Emerald Road to Phantom West for the Victorville Station MAIT— Major Accident Investigation Team investigation. Authorities said that the closure will remain throughout the night.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation at this time. Anyone with information should contact the Victorville station at (760) 241-2911.
