VICTORVILLE– A road rage incident in the Best Buy parking lot ended in a physical altercation and an accidental shooting on Saturday afternoon. Just after 4:35 p.m. deputies from the Victorville Station responded to the store parking lot for the report of a man being assaulted and possibly shot. Through investigation, deputies determined that Chris Chow, 54, and Chance Givens, 21, both of Victorville were involved in a road rage incident.
The incident began near Petaluma Road and Mall Boulevard. Chow pulled into the Best Buy parking lot and the vehicle Givens was a passenger in, followed him. Givens confronted Chow about his driving and began punching Chow in the face. Chow fearing for his and his wife’s safety grabbed his handgun from his waistband and accidently shot himself in the leg. Authorities determined that Chow carries a valid CCW.
Givens and his girlfriend, who was driving the vehicle fled the scene. Deputies located Givens at a nearby business and his girlfriend returned to the scene. Chow was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital of non-life-threatening injuries. Givens was cited and released at the scene.
The investigation will be submitted to the District Attorney for review and filing of criminal charges.
