Helendale Man Dies in Monday Morning Crash

HELENDALE – A Helendale man died as a result of a single-vehicle traffic collision on Monday morning. At around 7:10 a.m. the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and San Bernardino County Medics  responded to the crash on Crouch and Wild Roads in Helendale.

When paramedics arrived they located, 38-year-old Wayne Jaco ejected from the vehicle and unresponsive. Jaco was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a 38-year-old woman was also ejected causing major head and chest injuries. She was transported by air to a trauma center for the treatment of her injuries. 

CHP officials determined that Jaco was driving a 1992 Ford Explorer southbound on Wild Road when he made a left turn sending the vehicle into a dirt shoulder and into a power pole. After hitting the power pole, the vehicle overturned landing on the wheels.

Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Barstow area CHP. According to the CHP press release, Drugs and alcohol are not a suspected factor in this collision.
