Helendale Man Who Shot and Killed Ronnie Senegal Found Guilty of Voluntary Manslaughter

VICTORVILLE – A Helendale man was found guilty by a jury for the Tuesday, January 12, 2016, shooting murder or another Helendale man.

According to court records, Brandon Keith Todd, 38, of Helendale guilty of voluntary manslaughter on Wednesday, July 12, 2017. The jury heard the case for around two weeks before finding Todd guilty. It was also found to be true that Todd discharged a firearm and used a firearm during a commission of the crime court records show.

The shooting that took place at the Lakeside Mini Mart located at 26800 Blue Water Road came as a shock to the mostly quiet, tight-knit community. Ronnie Senegal, 43, was well-known in the community as being a kind man who often would lend a hand to help others throughout the community. At around 10:00 a.m., multiple gunshots were heard, and 911 calls flooded in. The first calls indicated only that shots were fired, followed by shots reporting that a man was shot outside of the popular mini market and gas station. When deputies arrived they learned that the two men were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated. Todd shot at Senegal several times before fleeing the scene.

Although Todd was nowhere to be found when deputies arrived, witnesses were able to provide the name of the suspect, the direction he drove, and where he lived. Todd was seen driving into the garage of his Robin Lane home, where he was detained at around 11:45 a.m. He was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Murder. Senegal died as a result of the shooting as medics continued to attempt to preserve his life while en route to the hospital.

Todd will be sentenced at the Victorville Superior Court on Thursday, August 3, 2017, where he faces up to 11 years in prison.
