HESPERIA – Over a week following the Tuesday, December 13th carjacking, a 25-year-old Hesperia man is behind bars authorities said.
The carjacking occurred just before 9:00 p.m. that evening when a woman gave the suspect, who she knew, a ride. She stopped at the gas station and went inside. When she returned, the suspect insisted on driving the vehicle. Initially, the female victim refused, but the suspect struck her, and would not let her get out of the vehicle.
The suspect finally stopped the vehicle, near Ranchero Road and Kinston Avenue in the City of Hesperia. The suspect, later identified as Jesse Mark Munoz, continued the assault on the victim. The victim managed to escape, but as Munoz fled, she was struck by the vehicle.
Deputies conducted an area check, but were unable to locate the suspect. A Ramey Warrant was issued for his arrest, and finally on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at around 3:00 p.m., deputies from the Hesperia Station located him at his Hesperia home in the 17800 block of Bascom Street.
Munoz was arrested without further incident and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Kidnapping, Carjacking and battery with serious bodily injury. He is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail. Munoz is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Tuesday afternoon.
